Does anyone else have probs hitting over 80 in their townace or do I have a problem 2ltr td auto - (#60) Gwyn Wilde, 4 Apr 01

Depends on the wind direction- sometimes mine'll sit at 85-90 all day, headwind or slight slope and 75 is a problem. They are heavy, and have a lot of frontal area. Plus the 2.0TD only puts out around 85HP. Something like a Ford Galaxy TDI can have 115HP, is a lot more slippery, and the FWD system has less loss than the RWD+auto in the townie... - (#61) David Miller, 5 Apr 01

I can get up to about 130kph ( 80mph) no problem in mine, without much more effort it will go to 140 (87.5) but then its about run out of steam. These machines are by no means racers and it can be a bit galling when Galaxies pass you by on the motorway. But then they don't compare with the amount of space, versatility and spec of the Townace. It depends upon what you want most from an MPV. But then I'm biased, I don't like Fords and I think Espaces have a crap build quality. - (#62) Ian Dunse, 5 Apr 01

Why do you want to? I really wouldn't want to pull an emergency stop from 90 mph in mine. The brakes and handling just aren't up to it. I go mad in my Sierra! - (#113) Steve Ford Elliott, 6 May 01

You need to remember that these vehicles were designed for the Japanese market and the speed limit there is 100Kph (62Mph).
