(Home) Airfilter pipe & timing adjustment (Sp+)

my 2litre model f is drinking petrol..on tik over you can tell that its not right a bit irratic..then when the second stge of carb opens up it seems ok..ive changed plugs but its doing about 15 to the gallon...what should this model do..is it carb or elecs thanks - (#89) granty, 29 Apr 01

15mpg sounds a bit low... has it had a good tune-up recently- plugs, leads, dist. cap, timing check? It sounds like carb, though. any vacuum hoses loose or broken? After that, float level, worn jets, faulty diaphragms...

that's the vacuum pipe routing diagram. If no-one can help, your dealer can order it- it's an emmissions thing... - (#102) David Miller, 4 May 01

Could you provide more info about the carb model. I'm at work at the moment but will have a look at the manual tonight and see if there is anything relevant that may help you.

There are 3 variations shown in the manual. Presumably you are referring to the 5 narrow bore vacuum tubes. Could you provide me with one or more of the following:
Are the tubes numbered? Should be 3,4,5,6,7
What model is the carb (two letter code)?
Are the tubes held together in a plastic holder? If so describe the shape ie. in-line or offset
Describe the layout of the position of the tube inputs to the carb. Use something identifiable on the carb as a reference point.
Unfortunately I do not have access to a scanner but if you are prepared to wait until I'm back at work next Tuesday, I could photocopy the relevant pages and mail you if you e-mail me with your home address. Presumably you want this sorting asap so you will need to give me some more info to go on so that I can respond via this page.
