I understand that my Townie engine (2 ltr turbo diesel) is based on the Toyota Hi-ace engine.
Is this true?
I need to get an oil and air filter in preperation for it's mot.

Steve, not completely true. Same engine is used in Corolla, Carina , Early Camry, etc, engine type is 2C-T.
Same oil filter is used in a number of applications, I think the Fram ref. is 5124. Air filter might be harder, I had problems getting one at a good price and ended up getting a K&N for a SAAB 99/900 turbo- same size.
Don't forget the fuel filter too- Fram P4922.
