(Home) Mastersurf reversing lights

What's the easiest way of getting to the reversing lights on my Mastersurf? The only way I could see, was to take all the trim off the back door. They are pants - can't see a thing when I'm reversing. They are 16W wedge base. Does anyone know if there is a higher wattage wedge base available? I've only got Halfords to play with & they haven't got any!
Thanks.... - (#119) Phil Jones, 11 May 01

Gi to your nearest scrapyard and get two lampholders for ordinary bulbs from a Toyota- indicator or rear light cluster. Just splice them in replacing the original wedge base socket. Those big wedge base lamps are nearly impossible to get in the UK, BTW.
Also try glueing tinfoil to the reflector... - (#120) David Miller, 11 May 01

Thanks David, but my main problem is how to get to the reflectors....also, will a standard base fit in place of a wedge?? - (#141) Phil Jones, 15 May 01

Phil, the lampholders are directly interchangeable. No easy access to the reflectors, though- the rear surround is one piece, the lenses are welded on. You might be able to stick a piece if foil on through the bulb aperture. I found that going to the 21w lamps helped a lot, though.
There's no other lamp with the same fitting and higher wattage unless you go for a stop/tail holder, in which case there is a 32/4w bulb, used by Volvo and Saab for their day running lights. There is, however, a halogen 21w available, your local motor factor may be able to order. - (#146) DAVID MILLER, 18 May 01
