(Home) FRAM parts numbers, engine oil capacity

I have noticed that the letters "FRAM" are often mentioned when giving part details.
What is this?

About to change the oil on my 2ltr Townie super extra master surf. Anyone know the volume required, rather than do it a little at a time?
I will be changing the filter at the same time, and flushing the engine with cleaner.

FRAM is a parts manufacturer, well known for producing "copy" filters and probably one of the better ones. Part number codes are peculiar to each manufacturer. So don't expect a FRAM 5432 to be the same as say an ACDelco.
As for oil capacity I think it's between 3 and 4 litres. No doubt david will have the exact figure to hand. Make sure you use a full or semi synthetic oil for a Turbo diesel and minimum spec of 10/30w.

If you intend to keep the vehicle for 12 months or longer, It might be worth your while adding Slick 50 to your oil and filter change. I use it on everything I drive or ride. In extensive tests
( in my back garden,) every vehicle I used it in, the revs went up a bit after a week. It wasn't coincidence and it wasn't the carburettor fairy !
It had to be less internal friction. A failed rally driver mate of mine, ( not mechanical failure, more nerve, ) swore by it. It's supposed to reduce engine friction and wear, give better MPG and a more responsive engine. I'm certain the first two are correct, the jury's still out on the other two... worth a try. - (#208) Kevin Savage, 25 May 01
