(Home) Free-wheel hubs not locking

After giving my 1990 2.0TD townie the once over this weekend I noticed that the O/S free-wheel hub was not locking up when I turned the flange on the wheel.
The N/S one engaged with an audible click once the wheel was turned and dis-engaged the same but nothing from the O/S.
Anybody else had similar trouble that may be able to help me diagnose the problem or any hints on how to strip these hubs down.
I know 4WD is not really essential in this country but would be a lot happier if everything was working right.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated. - (#320) Pete Bennett, 19 Jun 01

Depending on how the wheel and splines line up, the hub may not click into place. If it really isn't licking, remove the six screws around the knob and remove. Check for broken springs, grease the cam, reassemble. There's a full stripdown on the web www.off-road.com/4x4web.toyota/tech/aisin (if it hasn't changed...)

Thanks for the information David , have contacted the site you suggested and having obtained the info to strip down the hub have discovered that the clutch and spring assembly have worn and need new springs and washer.
Any ideas on where spare parts for these are available from?, as I could not seem to find an address on the site.
Also thanks to 'skippy' for info on URL change. - (#353) Pete Bennett, 24 Jun 01

Try your local dealer- these hubs were used on uk model hilux 4x4, Isuzus, Susukis, etc. - (#358) David Miller, 26 Jun 01
