(Home) Auto gearbox

i have just got a townie '90 2.0 TD 4x4 Auto . Its running fine but the autobox will hang onto the gear to about 4500rpm and not change down but if you release the gas a bit it will then change gear. i have just had the oil changed. Who has a quick fix for this problem ?
Many Thanks Bill - (#325) Bill, 20 Jun 01

Bill
Check the kickdown cable adjustment. Read up on the earlier thread entitled "Views Welcomed". It sounds like you have a similar problem to what I had but it's easily corrected.

After much adjustment and testing it seems alot better.
Thanks for the advice Ian. - (#339) Bill, 22 Jun 01

Does anyone know if the spacecruiser 2l auto gearbox is the same as the nissan bluebirds? , cant find a reasonable priced cruiser one but bluebirds are good prices.

No, but most RWD toyotas from the late70s to early 90s used the A40 series box (also used in early Volvos, too, BTW). Not sure how interchangeable, though. Bellhousings and extension housings might have to swap...
why not get yours rebuilt? What is the fault anyway?
