what sort of weight would my lite ace 2.2 turbo d be able to tow comfortably,i'm thinking of getting a trailer tent(conway type,not a big wide one).or even a medium sized caravan.are there any problems which occour when towing with an automatic gear box,ive never drove an auto before ,it's all a bit new to me.also any body know where i can get a tow bar from,and what sort of price are they - (#347) dave, 23 Jun 01
My Townace is a CR30 (4x4, 2Lt TD Auto Royal Lounge model and I had a tow bar fitted when I bought it. Sussex Towing Brackets 01903 216215
came and fitted it at home and had no problems since. I can't remember the cost though as it was all in when I bought the car. I'm sure they would advise. - (#351) Steve Menham, 24 Jun 01
I've used my CR21 2.0TD auto to pull a Raclet trailer tent (about 500 kg) - it will do it but doesn't pull very willingly up hills. Sierra 1.8CVH does it much better.
You should consider getting a transmission oil cooler fitted if you plan on lots of towing (any auto box specialist should be able to help) - it can be a bit disastrous if the trans fluid overheats.

I regularly pull a 1.5 tonne twin axle trailer (loaded up to 1 tonne auw) with no problems (apart from the hills)
I guess that an oil cooler would be in order for the autos out there, but as mine is a manual it copes fine

For a specific model type, eg cr30, cr21, etc, the bars should be interchangeable. The only differences between the master& townie are at the front. Check with watling for confirmation, though. - (#423) David Miller, 4 Jul 01
