(Home) Drivers skylight blind 'ratcheting'

'91 Townace just acquired. 5 of the skylight blinds work very smoothly. The driver's one is stiff to start moving and then moves as if I'm forcing some power-operated mechanism's gear teeth to slip. I don't believe there is such a power system.
Is this normal? if so why? if not I'll look for something jamming in the corrugations on the top surface of the blind which would fit with how it feels. - (#361) Dave Mason, 27 Jun 01

try closing the passengers' one slightly. They do overlap, and there's also a steel strip just visible above. - (#362) David Miller, 27 Jun 01

Mine's exactly the same. I just assumed that it had seen more use than the rest, so that the runners were wearing out.
Closing the passenger one slightly has no effect.

For the record, my problem was the metal strip above the blind. It had been deformed downwards so that it caught in the corrugations. Probably someone had used the space to stow a package or something. Or just possibly they used it as a handhold.
The easiest way to see it, to push it up, is from outside the vehicle.
Thanks. - (#493) Dave Mason, 9 Jul 01
