(Home) Odometer

Got my 93 Townace now after SVA and registering. The odometer now reads in miles but was not set to miles from the previous kilometer reading - so any reading now is a composite of 75k kilometers plus miles ! When I queried this with the people who carried out the SVA they said they didn't alter the km odometer reading to miles because it affected the odometer head, whatever that means ! (speedo is in mph now). Does this sound plausible ?
Also, although very pleased so far (will convert for my disabled son)there is a kind of whine when I accelerate (at first I thought the police were on my tail)- is this normal ? Model is 93 Townace 2.2 litre diesel 4WD 3C-T engine
Also, my radio with the band expander sounds rubbish except for radio 1 and I am reduced to listening to an Abba tape. Anyone experienced on the radio side ?
Finally (excuse all the points here !)when the wheel is on full lock or turning, going fairly slowly (eg approaching a junction to turn) and the brakes are applied there is a horrible creaking sound - possibly suspension ? - (#393) bill jones, 1 Jul 01

the odometer will continue to read in Km, it's only the speedo dial that is changed. Re radio, pull it out and fit a proper one!! The aperture is double- din, a standard radio will fit with a bit of fiddling. If you have a full-height radoi, you might be able to get the cubby-hole for above it from a breakers.
Re. Full lock noise, there are plastic steering stops behind the wheel, and they wear out. They look like nut-covers. Try greasing them, but if they are worn through, it's only a few quid to replace.

The whine could be from the bearings in the turbo or more likely a leak from the gasket or split in the exhaust manifold.
