(Home) Emissions

Hi,anyone had any experience with 2.0 petrol injection
engine? just fitted a new engine but the emissions
are 14% co and 1400 ppm !! replaced the temp switch
and fuel injection switch to no avail.any ideas greatly appreciated - (#451) Clive, 5 Jul 01

that's rich!! Leaking injector, excessive fuel pressure, duff lambda sensor, dirty throttle body?
Try the throttle body first, just remove the air duct to it, and spray a can of carb cleaner into the body, and into each of the vacuum spigots on it . Don't forget to open the throttle for some, too. Then check the lambda sensor. Get the engine up to operating temp, then connect a multimeter between the Vf and E1 terminals on the diagnostic connector. You should see 0- 1.5V, fluctuating. This should be happening about once a second, the average should be around .7v.
If not, time for a lambda sensor...
But first, try removing it and heating it to a dull red in a gas flame, having cleaned any soot out of the holes first. Reinstall, and try again.

Oops, meant to say, depending on the type of EFI, the Lambda sensor might be tested by measuring between E1 and OX. - (#457) David Miller, 6 Jul 01
