Yes this has been asked before. However the Fram number which everyone states as being the same for all townace versions is not correct. This message board states that the Air Filter is rectangular. This isn't its round. - (#679) Russ, 27 Jul 01

This is correct, AFAIK The square filter you've heard of is for the EFI petrol versions.
Try also Pipercross or K&N for a reuseable filter, the application is for Saab 90,99, and is a near perfect fit, just a few mm short. I'm in discussions with Pipercross about a special or a spacer... - (#681) David Miller, 28 Jul 01

i don`t know if this helps, but there`s a firm in bristol called "foreign auto parts" who specialise in grey imports, not sure if they are nationwide though, i got all three filters, air,fuel and oil for my k reg 20td for around £27.00. the no is 0117 963 1649. hth. - (#692) Barry Powell, 29 Jul 01

Oil filter-Toyota, part no J1312012 £5.94+
Air filter-Saab/Toyota, part no LX249 £5.20+
Fuel filter part no ADT32313 £11.50+.
Aparently they also have a website,

Barry, the LX249 is a Mahle filter, vey good quality. But does it fit 100%? I've a K&N for the same Saab in my townie and had to make a spacer- it's about 1/4" short, it would be loose even with the lid clamped down. - (#709) David Miller, 31 Jul 01

Guys,

Trying to find a replacement air filter for my 1989 Space Cruiser 2.0 - 3Y engine - cylindrical shape, approx 5 inch diameter, about 6 inches tall. Does anybody have a list of cross-reference part numbers for these items by Fram/K&N etc?

FYI, am getting around 250-280 miles on a full tank
