(Home) Black smoke on acceleration

Hi everyone,i may have missed this answer, but i seem to get black smoke when i floor the accelerator, also the revs build up rather slowly from standstill.i have replaced the fuel'air and oil filter plus oil change also have turn the allen screw eighth of a turn, which has improved it slightly.any help greatly appreciated--DAVE L - (#570) DAVE LINNEY, 18 Jul 01

Adjusting the allen screw to increase acceleration from start, does result in a bit of black smoke if you didn't have it before. Are we talking a lot of smoke or just a "puff" of it as you kick the accelerator?
If bad then may need the pump setting up. Not really a DIY job I'm afraid unless David Miller has some more little tricks up his sleeve.

thanks IAN,it just seems to kick out black smoke until the accelerator revs up then everythings ok. - (#576) DAVE LINNEY, 18 Jul 01

IANi have same problem as RALPH PENNY(re QUICK GETAWAY)any help appreciated DAVE L - (#577) dave linney, 18 Jul 01

It's all very relative. If you are used to driving a car with an engine size greater than say 1600cc then you are used to getting off to a flying start. Smaller engined cars don't get off the mark so quick. Diesels even less so. I have to make a conscious effort to apply different driving techniques when in the Townie or my Honda. Tweaking the pump diaphragm made a slight improvement to the Townace but I still can't take on the boy-racers at the lights! You have to get used to it I'm afraid.

I was referring to petrol engined cars of course

I was afraid that may be the answer because i've tried everthing i can think of plus any advice you chaps have given me,perhaps i should be greatful that my car starts and runs well(thank heavens for small mercies eh!!)THIS is my first ever diesel car. - (#582) DAVE LINNEY, 18 Jul 01

Hi just had the same problem. Result =new injectors. They relaced the flow valve in the exhaust. The one that sends exhaust fumes back to the turbo to increase fuel consumption.Sorry dont know the technical name but Ian and Dave do.Cost with full service including new side light holders and bulbs ,new fog light and new rear wiper blade £260.Hope that helps.
