Hi everyone from Perth Western Australia.

I have a 1990 MasterAce Surf.

Two questions:
1. Does anyone know of an Ace group in Aus, particularly in West Aus?

2. Do any other oil filters fit onto the 2CT engine?
The reason I ask is that the standard type is nearly $60 over here. To put that into perspective, an oil filter for my Father's Landcruiser is $7.95!

It is good to be able to peruse some of the info on this site.

We have had our Ace for about three months, and love it. We have also had it off-road a couple of times. We don't get snow here, and even mud can be a bit hard to find, so most of our off-road work is sand, and the Ace absolutely loves it!
It has surprised me time and again at what we can try in it.
I have owned and driven several different 4WD's, and the Ace seems to be pretty good. Wheel travel will limit me of course, but it hasn't stopped us yet.

Regards, Dave.

re. the filters, is AUD$60 a toyota dealer price? That's what, £20? Pretty dear.
The pattern equivalent is Fram PH5124, and you should get it branded Wix, Japparts or similar for around half the price.
Allegedly the mounting thread is the same as some Fords, you could look into that...

Hi David,

Q2;The FRAM equivilant oil-filter is
#PH5124,and the last one I brought here in NZ was NZ$35.00 I think?
I got filters for oil, fuel&air together for $70.00
total and remember the fuel one was $13.00 without
a sensor!(with sensor was double)
Would have thought oil filter in Perth to be no more than AU$25.00/$30.00?

Cheers Trev S.

Yes the prices were AU$.
They are not Toyota OEM, but Ryco and two other brands were about the same price.
The first set of filters I bought, were Ryco,
Oil - $57.00(AU) and,
Air - $56.00(AU).
I nearly fell off my stool!
I have since found a shop which can supply Oil filter for $27.00, but that is still three times the price of filters for other vehicles.
I will check for that ref number.
Several people have suggested that something else may fit, but I don't want to take chances, so if anyone knows of a type that will fit and do the job I would appreciate it. (And please remember that I am in AUS - not all your cars are available to us!)

Thanks for the answers so far! - Dave.

Dave,
Here in UK we have the splendid "Blueprint" range of parts for our type of vehicle, ie, oil filter part No ADT32110, retailing at 11.49 GBP plus VAT at 17.5%. When I fit these filters, I notice that they are made by a Japanese Company. I wonder if this Japanese manufacturer (whose name I cannot recall)supply them to your part of the world, possibly for another application/vehicle or, even for Townaces, Does anyone remember the name on the filter which come out of the Blueprint boxes? This might help to track them down.

David

I have a Corolla with a 1C engine and once met the
owner of a similar vehicle who had had an engine
reconditioner modify the engine to take cheaper
filters. I notice that the part with the male
thread that takes the filter (on the transverse
engine anyway) is a screw in insert.

Care is necessary with cheaper filters in that some
of them do not have satisfactory anti drain back
valves. I have been caught by this.

Regards
Russell

the filter has a mounting thread M24x 1.5mm, and the seal o/d is 80mm. Try getting your factor to cross reference those figures...
