After looking on the site and finding very little information about towbars for my townace I phoned Barnsley Towbar Centre and had a towbar fitted for £184

I recently fitted a towbar to my Masterace Surf. I got it from Watling Engineers, tel 01727 873661, www.tow-bars.co.uk. In total it cost £198.52.
Towbar 149.50
1x12n wiring 12.50
carriage 6.95
VAT 29.57
Total 198.52
I did not have too much problem fitting it but it took the best part of the day for me. However a couple of the bolts supplied were a bit short and some washers were missing from the kit. They did supply longer bolts and the missing washers after I rang them. The best part about it is that most of it is tucked up under the rear bumper out of sight. can anyone tell me if any other models of towbars will fit the masterace surf efi, 1988.ie will the town ace fit it/or the high ace. if not watling have quoted £183.83 inc vat and delivery.can anyone do any better??

i had my master ace surf towbar made by Watling Engineers in St.Albans (01727 873661)
as most of the bodies are different they will ask for you serial # to make one for that model

Can anybody supply pics/diagrams of a towbar for a 89-90 liteace petrol auto, I can make one myself, but could do with some idea of where it mounts and dimensions

If its the same as the townace/spacecruiser it fits on the rear bumper fixings along the chasis legs. remove the original bumper brackets and fix the bumper to the tow bar. I own a townace and fitted a spacecruser bar to it in this way as per the spacecruser just 4 bolts hold the tow bar to the rear end. the bar consists of two peices thet bolt down the chasis a cross bar a drop bar and spacer to clear the tow ball from under the bumper. I hope this helps if you need a picture i could get you one from under mine another time. good luck.

Hi Alan, just read your message. That price is way over , I am a tow bar fitter at Indespension, Bolton and I can tell you the tow bar is a Watling bar and costs about £160.00 + vat. an absolute doddle to fit and wire up.
