(Home) Electric windows

I have 4x4 auto townace 1990 .The passenger window goes up and down using the passenger door switch but wont work using the switch in the drivers door.Is this because a fuse has blown....if so where are the fuse's .
Thankyou - (#739) Ralph Penny, 4 Aug 01

Ralph
Sorry if this is stating the obvious but have you accidentally pressed the lockout switch at the side of the central locking switch on the driver's door pad. Try pressing it.

Thanks for the suggestion butits not that - (#746) Ralph Penny, 4 Aug 01

In which case its more likely a broken or pulled wire or faulty switch rather than a fuse if the window is actually working.

For remote operation the left hand side electric windows rely on a normally closed contact in the left hand switch which is made when the switch is in neutral , this contact is located inside the switch , and it is wired in such a way as to enable the driver to operate it remotly . The usual fault is that this 'neutral position contact becomes weak and resultant pitting of the contact faces occurs ,which then effects the drivers switch as well due to the arcing effect as this switch is in series with it . Don't fret though because with carefull dismantling both switches can be removed and cleaned and the contact gaps set , beware the passenger side one as the contact bars are 'handed' . The gap is critical and needs trial and error before a gap that works is acheived ..its very slight too ..use pointed pliers to bend the tips bar . The drivers side has 3 tiny springs on it ..dont loose em ! finally clean with meths and reasemble ..it will save you a fortune if u can do it .If you want to check which switch needs dismantling then remove the passenger side switch and check for a supply from the white/orange for one direction and the white/blue for the other direction ,these supplies come from the drivers side switch ..if you have these then its almost certain its the passenger side neutral contacts .
