(Home) Timing belt changing warning light

Have a 2.2l 1993 Super Extra 4WD Townace. On starting up, the check lights come on and then go off, including one for the timing belt. I just want to check that this light will come on and stay on when the vehicle knows (presumably through the odometer)that it is time to get it changed ? (Not a lot of use if it only comes on if the belt has broken !)Mileage so far around 75,000 km.
Supplementary question
seem to have 4WD, nice 2.2 litre 3CT engine, Super Extra, but nowhere does it say turbo - how can I tell ? - (#768) Bill Jones, 7 Aug 01

*2.2 litre 3CT engine, Super Extra, but nowhere does it say turbo - how can I tell ?*
does it have the red and green turbo lights on the rev counter?
can you hear the turbo whistling?
(i don't think there is such a thing as a non-turbo diesel) - (#769) skippys, 7 Aug 01

If the engine type is 3c-t, the T is for turbo. But as Skippy says, there should be two loghts set into the tacho. The turbo is visible at the RHS of the engine, the exhaust goes onto it...
TBelt light comes on at 100kkm, and there is a reset switch somewhere under the dash to turn it off until the next time.

In response to a post left in the middle of the Yellow headlights thread.
Get it done ASAP, the timing belt that just came off ours had only done 80,000 Km and was showing it's age already, the teeth were starting to crack away from the backing, so do it before the belt snaps & make the engine go bang, ouch!!! & mega bucks to replace engine. While your at it, see my earlier posting about the other things to replace at the same time as the cambelt. HTH Rob.

a "t belt light" came on, tripped by the mileometer, I am a very new Townace owner, never had a diesel before, what does this mean, help... don;'t want to be ripped off by a mechanic, any advice guys ? thanks

Cathy, the light is telling you that the timing belt is due for replacement. The light is dumb, though, just coming on every 100kkm. If your belt has been replaced recently, you can discount it. It can be reset by operating a small switch in or under the dash, don't know where precisely.

The warning light came on at exactly 90,000 km - I was watching as it happened ! In fact as I just had the engine changed, the belt has been done, so all I need to know is how to switch it off (couldn't find on Ace Answers). Will I need to remove any of the dashboard to get at the switch or relay or whatever ?

not sure, any manuals I've seen say that it's on a flying lead, taped to the loom somewhere. Try taking the cover below/ to the rightof the column off for a nosey.
Anyone with a post-92 model got better info?

Don't know if any help to ya, but I have a 84 hiace and a manual. It states that the timing belt light will auto come on after a 100k. To switch the light off, remove the plug at the lower left hand side of the speedometer and push in the button using a suitable tool, hope this helps ya.
