Just in case any of you Masterace owners haven't discovered how to disable the bell/warning device:
Pull out the clock from the middle of the dashboard & disconnect the connector which goes to the bell device.
What a relief that was...! - (#796) Ian Gamlin, 11 Aug 01

Agreed, mine came out two days ago. I have a '91 Townace Turbo-diesel and the importer didn't bother to remove the bell (or the breakdown flare!)
The procedure follows, in detail, for those who, like me, are mechanically challenged.
1) Remove the two screws that secure the trim surrounding the speedo and instruments (under the top lip of the trim) and pull the trim out (clips secure the bottom edge - just pull carefully).
2) Remove the four screws that secure the speedo/instrument panel.
3) Pull the panel forward gently and look round the back from the right hand side. You can see a couple of electrical connectors. Remove them by pinching the clips on the side and pulling gently.
4) Look round the back again, the speedo cable will be visible, and prevents you from pulling the panel all the way off. You must release this cable by reaching round the back and squeezing the spring-loaded clip on the barrel at the end of the speedo cable. The panel should now come all of the way off.
5) The bell connects to the panel by a clip and two wires (check the link at http://freespace.virgin.net/steve.ford_elliott/townace_mechanicals.htm to see what it actually looks like). Remove the clip screw(s). Remove the two wires by undoing the screws, removing the wires and replacing the screws. Warning! The printed circuit that the screws go into seems to be printed on a piece of polyethene so be careful not to rip this when the screws come out.
6) If any instrument bulbs have blown - now is the time to replace them. All of the bulbholders on the speedo panel are easily accesible from here.
6) Replace the speedo cable (push to fit back on and it will click on) and the electrical connectors. Replace the four speedo screws. Replace the trim and screws.
Enjoy the silence !!
