(Home) Use of cam belt

It's time for one of Johns topical tips. If you have changed the cam belt, or had it changed for you, hang on to the old belt. It has a number of uses, especially as an oil filter removing tool, ie, wrapped around the filter, tooth side inwards, clamped together with a Mole wrench or similar, even the tightest filter will come away, especially if you make up a small "rocking clamp" and handle (simple to make)and cut a short section off the belt, (long enough to go round the biggest filter) which progressively tightens to get a good grip. - (#828) John Davis, 18 Aug 01
