help needed on my model f space cruiser 90 reg
the problem is a banging noise on the steering rack.when stood still and engine off if u move steering wheel up and down u can hear clunking comeing from below...ive had a look and looks like a bit of play on the steering box..not the rack..the one where the actual rod comes out of body to uj`s then down to rack....is there any way i can adjust this unit...i know there is a bottom plate on it with 10 mm bolts on....heeeeeeellllp[pppp - (#966) granty32, 1 Sep 01

Don't know. It'll be a set of bevel gears, so you should be able to reshim to take up play. Is there fresh lube in it? Bunged up with hardened grease mightn't help... - (#968) David Miller, 2 Sep 01

OK stop the press. I've looked on the parts cd, and if it's the same gearbox as the townie, there's a big nut surrounding the output shaft. It's a locknut for a threaded adjuster, which preloads that pinion via a spring. I'll email you direct with the exploded view. - (#969) david Miller, 2 Sep 01

I don't know if this would help and I am not familiar with your model but, on some models there is a flexible coupling, on the shaft between the UJ's and the rack. If yours has this component, has it started to degrade ? - (#970) John Davis, 2 Sep 01

Umm Grant, your yahoo seems to be down. Email me and I'll send you the image by return. - (#971) David Miller, 2 Sep 01
