In my Townace I still have the brackets and wiring for a small tv. Has anyone successfully installed a tv?????
Thankyou - (#1123) Ralph Penny, 23 Sep 01

No, I haven't installed a TV,but we do, or should I say my son takes a small 5" colour TV with us sometimes and plugs it in to socket at back.watches it as he goes along. - (#1125) Barry Thorogood, 23 Sep 01

When I got mine it was equipped with a TV aerial
on top, along with a booster unit and power supply in the console between driver and passenger. This was UK fitted, so I assume it worked (and when I dismantled everything I found that one of the power supply wires had just been cut off and it was still live). - (#1136) Mike Rawson, 26 Sep 01

I'm not sure this is the right forum to discuss TV remote controls. Have you tried the panasonic web site or a high street retailer??????? - (#1127) MAC, 24 Sep 01

If it's a japanese model TV, you haven't a hope in hell... - (#1130) David Miller, 24 Sep 01

Go to Argos and pick up one of those replacement remotes. Some are multifunctional, and work videos etc. Just pick up the cheapest.
They can self scan and lock on to your t.v. remote with ease. You have nothing to lose, we have a couple of them and they work fine, + if against the odds, it dosn't work, you can take it back sharpish, and Argos will refund your cash, no problem. - (#1131) Kevin Savage, 24 Sep 01

We are getting a toyota Hiace imported from Japan,
similar to the townace but longer and squarer. I have just
been e mailed some photos of it and see that it has a TV
fitted. The dealeer has told me that TVs in Japanese imports
will not work and that to make them work would need a new
chip costing £600! Does anyone know if this is true or if
there is a cheaper way to do it or is it better to buy a new
telly. Will it work with a video or does it need a different
chip for this? Catherine - (#2633) Catherine Williams, 3 Apr 02

In Japan they use the NTSC format for their television, same as in the USA, we use the PAL format, you can get converters to allow PAL transmissions to be seen on a NTSC television, a good look through one of the Satellite magazines may reveal what you need, to achieve this you would probably need a UK spec video recorder playing through the converter onto the NTSC monitor. Probably would only cost 2-300 to do this including a video, like I say, have a look in the magazines & phone a few people in the know. Another route you could go, is the same route I am currently taking to put a TV in our Townie, that is a 15" TFT flat screen TV, with video & computer inputs, it will allow us to watch TV & play the PS2 on it, costs £500 all in & looks brilliant, when I have fitted it I'll report how good it is. Don't forget to put the sticker in the rear window "Attention car thieves. Loads of hi-tec equipment for the taking!" - (#2639) Ian Dunse, 4 Apr 02
