(Home) Alternator belt tension adjustment bolt problem

Further to my message 'brakes' just below, I've discovered that the problem is with the alternator which has 'lost' the tensioner bolt (it's just not there I assume it must have come loose and fallen out).
The alternator has come loose therefore the fan belts cannot turn it or the vacuum pump for the brake servo.
This has caused more problems. The thread has gone inside the bracket on the side of the block but my question is should there be a spacer of some sort between the tensioner bracket and the alternator.
Anyone help
with thanks

Ref the spacer query, do you mean a spacer tube, over the adjusting bolt, ie, to restrict it's minimum travel ? The illustration/parts list (2CT engine) does not show any spacer.
BTW, if you are not able to put another thread in to replace the stripped one (in the bracket) could you not put a nut on the adjusting bolt, behind the bracket and get your adjustment this way ? Belt tensioning would not be easy but it might get you out of trioble until you can strip it out completely.
I hope this helps - (#1128) John Davis, 24 Sep 01
