(Home) Head cracks, gasket types, part nos.

HI All
Great site but to the point my 1989 Townace 2C-T has been dumping water out of the expansion tank so I bit the bullit and took the head off, the gasket seamed ok but on looking at the cylinder head I have crackes between the valve seats (not a problem I have seen this many times before as I am a mechanic)but I have a major split running from the valve seat to the swerl chamber I removed the swerl chamber and the crack runs right down inside the hole, so poss one scrap head?
Does any body know of a firm who will repair ths head? or where to get a second hand one for less than £300,or has anybody fitted a head from a Camry 2C-T engine is it a stright swap? I have noticed people saying about an upgarded head gasket what type is it and where do I get one Toyota? Lots of questions, hope you can help
Thanks for reading this post

Yup, sounds like a scrap head OK.
all 2c-t heads interchange AFAIK, the only difference I recall(I fitted a head from an import camry to mine...) is the water outlet at the back of the head above the starter is a single in the townie, but is a t piece on the camry. They just screw into the head, though.
Re the HG, the last Toyota one I saw was a "multishim" type- five or six individual shims, some with pressed sections all riveted together. Federal Mogul are supplying a standard composite type, though. Tightening instructions have changed- there's an extra pretightening stage, then it's angular.

David,
Thanks for the quick reply, would you know the part no for the head gasket? (Federal Mogul). BTW Went to Mann Egerton in Derby to day and thay have in stock (as of post date) RM025E sorry forgot to ask how many - (#1203) Steve Saward, 8 Oct 01

Hello Steve,
I notice that you are in the Derby area. Bullivants of Chaddesden are most helpful. They import these vehicles and have supplied me with the updated gasket, head bolts etc. Also, I have a s/h 2C-T head which I bought from them for spares, ie, valves, collets, tappet shims etc. It has been skimmed to the limit but, I don't think it is cracked. I am in Loughborough so if I can help in any way, by all means, email me. - (#1204) john.davis1@ntlworld.com, 8 Oct 01

Can't recal the FM number, but the latest p/no from Toyota is 11115 64181, IIRC.
Or 11115 64121- this is superceded by the former. - (#1205) David Miller, 8 Oct 01
