(Home) Underseal

I have heard that Import Townies are not undersealed, is this correct? If so has anyone had corrosion problems, or taken steps to protect their vehicle?
BTW I have visit notice boards for a variety of different vehicles and this is by far the best and most helpful. - (#1200) Rob Storer, 8 Oct 01

Mine, like yours, didn't look to have much in the way of underseal. All I did, ( cheapskate that I am ) was crawl under on a sunny day and spray a couple of tins of Waxoyl airosol at anything and everything. It's a clear wax compound, you can brush it on, but spraying was the easier.
A lock-up near me, ( Accrington ) sprays the underside with a treacle like substance for around £40. I'm sure that there will be a similar firm close to you in your yellow pages. - (#1201) Kevin Savage, 8 Oct 01

Kevin's correct about the lack of underseal. They don't salt the roads in Japan, therefore there is no need to underseal Jap home-market cars. The major reason for many 10+ year old jap import vehicles looking like new and having virtually no rust. A big put-off for some potential buyers though.
I too used waxoyl on mine after putting the car on blocks, removing all wheels and cleaning everything with a high pressure hose first, then leaving overnight to dry before applying waxoyl. Definitely a summer job though, the underneath is hardly going to dry overnight in this weather!
