(Home) Glo plug warning

It might seem a daft idea but "She who must be obeyed" has a bit of trouble in indentifying the Glo Plug indicator on the row of dashboard lights. I want to add a second light (or low level sound buzzer) to operate when the glo plugs are heating up. I am not sure where on the 2C-T engine (Masterace)I could make my connections. Could anyone advise on where the live feed, to the glo plugs, is switched on and off and whether or not I risk "building in " some electrical problem by doing this ?
Thanks for any comment. - (#1286) John Davis, 26 Oct 01

John, the glow has two stages, and their timing doesn't match that of the light. They are controlled by the ECU in the l/h door pillar, driving two relays. The light is supplied by the instrument fuse, and turned on by a switched ground in the ECU. Your best bet is to connect in parallel with the lamp in the instrument panel. - (#1287) David Miller, 26 Oct 01

Thanks David. Yes, that's obviously the way to do it. I had given that some consideration and decided (being lazy) to avoid a dashboard dismantle but, I think is should be quite easy to trace the feed to the existing lamp. Thanks for your (agan) most helpful comments. - (#1288) John Davis, 26 Oct 01

the dashboard dismantle is the easy way if you ask me, and as far as I can see, the wire should be red, but could also be yellow/ blue or yellow/black. - (#1289) David Miller, 26 Oct 01
