(Home) LPG conversion (Sp+)

i am pround owner of d plate 2 litre spacecruiser, with the normal thirst for fuel, being a mechanic some years ago, i reasoned that any secondhand 2 litre lpg conversion of any car would likely be adaptable for my vechicle. any body ever tryed ,any comments or experences - (#1332) TERRY YOUNG, 31 Oct 01

Do a conversion kit, i think it's about £600. I would like to do it, but i am little hesitant over the life expectancy of my 'D' space cruiser - (#1345) Doug Parr, 2 Nov 01

yes well mines a bit of a dog ,but have A plate one for spares so hope to fully restore mine one day. but as pennies are tight at moment, need to fit s/hand lpg conversion unit if at all feasable, - (#1347) terry young, 2 Nov 01

i tried to enquire about converting my 2lt petrol but all the companys i spoke to would not consider converting a vehicle with more than 10,000.mile on the clock. - (#1371) steve, 6 Nov 01

Is this something to do with the government's "green" incentive scheme? - (#1381) David Miller, 7 Nov 01

2L TDs are the most popular as they have the best balance of fuel consumption and (laughs out loud) performance. They're, shall we say, capable of motorway cruising. You won't be embarrassing any Galaxies though. Fine around town.

Most people reckon on about 27-30 mpg average mixed driving with a diesel, less with petrol engine. 35+ should be possible with a well-tuned diesel on long trips.

People have discussed LPG but it would probably be V expensive to convert it. Veggie diesel is another possibility but you have to add extra lubes etc to avoid killing your fuel pump. I'd find a sweet diesel and leave it that way!

I've got a petrol lite-ace, been looking at lpg kits, locally to fit yourself it can be as little as around £400, fitted the best quote was around £600, this went up to around £900 while i was shopping around, I may go ahead but can't see it happening this year now, my lite-ace does about 32 mpg on a run by the way
