(Home) Cam belt

i have a lite ace,M reg 2.2 turbo diesel, auto.i think i need to replace the cam belt\timingbelt.the mechanics in work have offered to do the job for me,but a little bit of inside information is needed first.how much are cam belts, where is the best place to get it from and what is the proccedure for removeal and refitting.has any one got any diagrams for this job they could send.my engine is a 3ct is there much difference from the 2ct.any info would be a great help - (#1467) dave, 21 Nov 01

2c, 3c, same engine. different bore and stroke just. If you're going to be keeping the bus for a while, invest in the Toyota manual RM025E- it's the mechanical manual for the engine, and your dealer can order (for now, short supply)
Your local motor factor will have the belt. - (#1468) david miller, 22 Nov 01

got a cam belt cheap, long story, genuine toyota!
was thinking of swapping belt, although not due yet. read up on this on manual, which suggests need to remove a lot of pulleys. when i've done this job on other vehicles in past, i just needed to slacken tensioner enough to lift belt over lip on pulleys. is it really necessary to remove pulleys or will releasing tension be enough?
thanks.

I've just bought a Townace and expect to be doing one soon. I have not seen a manual yet but whatever you do don't cut corners with a cambelt, especially on a diesel. Not looked yet but expect that there must be quite a bit of info about it on this site.

Pulleys are only removed for inspection. Once the crank pulley is off (fan belt) then with the tensioner released, the belt will come off OK.
