(Home) TV in a Townie

I know that the subject of televisions has been touched in once or twice before, but has anyone got one in theirs, if so, where are the brackets mounted to & what size screen is the TV, I want to put one in mine to keep the kids quiet on long jouneys & then hook up a playstation 2 to it so they can play games or watch DVD's via the PS2. If it mounts from the roof, ny model has the skylight roofs rather than the moon roof, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rob. - (#1619) Rob Drinkwater, 13 Dec 01

The schematics show the bracket for a TV in 3 parts. They fit to the roof, probably under the pyramidal shaped plastic cover located centrally in the mid-row seat area. Unfortunately, no part number is listed for the TV itself but it looks like a miniature version of a "Barco" computer projector, if you are familiar with them. You sometimes see them in pubs for big screen displays. Anyway, considering the differences in Jap home market electronics, I doubt you could source an original TV. You're best bet would be to rig something to fit based upon something you can buy in this country. It's going to be cheaper and easier to repair if needed.

Thanks Ian, but I can't find a piece of pyramidal plastic trim in the ceiling above the centre seat row, would this only apply to the ones with the moon roof as I have skylights, please come back to me, regards, Rob. - (#1626) Rob Drinkwater, 14 Dec 01

I've also got skylites. Pretty sure there's a plastic cover. Let me check and get back to you.

Rob
Yes I was nearly right. Not exactly a pyramid, more like a 3" square that domes out a bit.

Is that plastic cover not just on Royal lounges, I recall there's a sensor "magnetic?" in that area... - (#1658) david miller, 18 Dec 01

David
Could be but other than a blanking plate for a TV mount I couldn't guess what it is for. So any ideas as to what you might think it is? Sensor for what, something useless (like the compass) for detecting Borg cubes maybe?

Don't know... Do any have remote central locking from the factory? Maybe it's something to do with the magic starter relay??? - (#1662) david miller, 18 Dec 01

David
Dunno - never heard of a remote central locking Townie. I do know the cover doesn't come off easily and I'm very loathe to break it. So unless someone else on this site can come up with a good answer, it looks like remaining one of life's mysteries. So where does the TV bracket fit? (oh let's forget it and get back to real problems!)

The compass sensor deinitely is in a pyramid/square dome in the roof as you describe. So if you haven't got a townace with a compass you'll not only find it that bit harder to navigate out of a strange town - you also probably won't have that pyramid/square dome.
This was discussed in threads starting 18 Aug 01 and 27 Oct 01 - See "compass" in the index on townace.com. - (#1664) Dave Mason, 18 Dec 01

Dave
Thanks for solving that little mystery. Needless to say, the sensor in mine is obviously shafted because despite numerous attempts to configure the compass, I can't get it to point north. Guess I'll have to rely on signposts and instincts for directions.
Cheers

Funny, I was led to believe that the compass was purely magnetic,if it's a true fluxgate compas, it must have cost a fortune at the time... - (#1670) david miller, 19 Dec 01
