(Home) TEMS setup

Has anybody studied the Chilton manual, especially with a view to setting up the TEMS suspension on Town & Masteraces. Does it give any diagnostic/testing advice on these vehicles or, is it aimed at other Toyota vehicles with this type of suspension ? Or, could anyone elaborate on the correct procedure for fitting the solenoid (?) motors on top of the units. Does the motor, when engaged with the central stem of the s/absorber, just turn it through 90 degrees or is the stem, which is, presumably, connected to a valve within the s/absorber, "screwed" in and out by the action of the solenoid motor to make the suspension softer or harder ? Also, when fitting the s/absorbers, do the "flats", on the top of the s/absorber stem, have to be in a certain, radial position, ie, the flats across the vehicle or, perhaps, in line with the vehicle front to back axis ?
Any comment much appreciated. - (#1727) John Davis, 28 Dec 01

John, according to chiltons, the actuating stem is rotated, andthe set-up position is with the flats accross the car. This is the "hard" position.
There is a test procedure listed for the cressida, makes no comment to the spacecruiser. If you don't have access to the book, I can scan and send. Just let me know.
As an aside, if you're shocks are a little tired, you could replace them with manually adjustable ones, and fiddle... - (#1728) david miller, 29 Dec 01

Thanks very much David for(again) the splendid advice. Perhaps I could email you direct and take advantage of your kind offer. - (#1731) John Davis, 29 Dec 01
