(Home) Pre-ignition on 3Y Toyota engine (Sp+)

Hallo there
Can anybody help me with the technical engine specs on
a toyota cresida 3y engine which used to be gas and
being altered to run on petrol wwhen I fitted it into
my car.The following were changed on the engine to
enable petrol running,
-sparkplugs, distributor, carburator, petrol pump.
How do I get rid of pre-ignition and what must the
firing angle be? - (#1754) Jacques Beukes, 1 Jan 02

Don't know much about that engine. Is it electronic ignition? I presume it's the same as the spacecruiser's though Ian, any thoughts?
But if your advance is set to 5 degrees or so at idle, I wouldn't have thought pinking would be a problem- try reducing the advance until the engine runs correctly.
Is there any chance that the compression ratio is too high on that engine?
And can you use higher octane fuel? - (#1755) david miller, 1 Jan 02

That's right, the 3Y can be found in the SpaceCruiser. There are 3/4 types of distributor can be either electronic or regular with points.
Firing order - 1,3,4,2
Plugs - NGK BPR5EY gap 0.031"
Dwell angle - 52 degrees +/- 6
Timing - 8 degrees BTDC
Idle speed - 650rpm
