(Home) E.C.U problems

David thankyou for your help, my Townace is a 2:0L E.F.I (petrol)built in 1989.
Model Number is E-YR21G-PEZE
Engine is 3Y-EU
To give you a little more info, the car has a Miss Fire and is only running on the 3 cylinders, its never the same cylinder thats not working. Compression on all 4 pots read 180 and the plugs have a very good spark. The emisions showed that there is too much O 2
and at times the cat is over heating. This has been a getting worse over the past 3 months. My mechanic (father in law) feels that it is an injection seystem problem, but as he no longer works in a garage and has reached a dead end we need some help re the value's Question. I have contacted Toyota but with little help, what we are deperate for is a wiring diagram for the E.C.U or is there a car in the U.K. that operates a similar injection system??if so we can go back and use an analizer to track down my problem.
Sorry if this is to much info but I am stuck and I hope you can help. If you have any ideas at all then let me know and if you have some data or diagrams you could send me I would be over the moon.
Thanks again John Yeoman.
p.s. sorry about the spelling :) - (#1801) John Yeoman, 4 Jan 02

John, any of the sensors could give that problem, but check what the output of the lambda sensor is with the engine warm to see if the engine is going closed loop or not. I think that getting an answer to the code 58 problem would help a lot, though. Unfortunately, toyota don't do a lot of diagnostics other than blink codes and voltage checks. - (#1803) david miller, 4 Jan 02

John
Sorry you are still having problems. From what you say the problem sounds as if it is in the injection/timing area, assuming you have looked at the obvious like plug leads etc. Have you tried turning the engine over with all plugs out but connected and earthed on the block? Is there a pattern to the mis-spark? If all spark in succession correctly then it could be timing or a problem with the injectors.
I'm still confused by your error code 58 as the manual only shows 1 - 11. If you bear with me, I'll try and e-mail you the ECU diagnostic pages and diagrams from the manual. Hopefully tonight. I'm having problems getting to this site via 2xISPs at the moment, I'm using a US gateway from my employer at present, but obviously cannot use this route at home. Shouldn't effect e-mail though.
