This is a great site! we are in the process of buying a townace...but it seems a bit of a minefield out there. is there a list of much loved townaces for sale anywhere? we know there's lots of dealers that do them but would prefer to buy privately if possible. also bit of a weird question...but we've got loads of kids and do a lot of camping. Personally I would go for a vehicle that has just been imported into the country. It should be low mileage and not been subject to Britain's salty roads. Having said that if you can find one that has been lovingly cared for and get a good price, then buying private could be a good deal. I would recommend trawling around any dealers in your area to get a feel for the type and specification of vehicle that meets your requirement then if nothing suits go looking thru the private ads. At least you should have a good idea of what to look for and how much to pay. As for the awning, it depends upon how it fits to a VW. The VW gutter is stronger than that of the Townace, and runs continuously around 3 sides of the vehicle (if memory serves). The Townace gutter is a polished steel fitting that only runs down each side and wasn't made for an awning. It is doubtful that it would accept an awning being threaded onto it and could be damaged.
