(Home) Engine oil

I have just bought 2 toyota oil filters part number 90915-30001 from main agent for my 2.0lt td royal lounge 1990. Price each £13.50 includes a bit of discount. As this is my first oil change since i have had my townace and i have done 3,000 miles i would like to know if i can use Castrol rx super which is for turbo diesels engines. I have always used it in my mondeo td and changed every 5,000 miles. This oil did not breath heavy or use any in my mondeo from one change to another. Its done 125,000 miles.
Would this mileage of 5,000 miles be ok for my townace.
Thanks for any advice Phil - (#1953) Phil Cook, 24 Jan 02

Sounds OK, Phil... - (#1954) David Miller, 25 Jan 02

snap on the model phil
you probably know this but it is advisable to change oil at 8000 kilomtres or 6 months whichever coms first - (#1962) john collier, 26 Jan 02

My brother in law mechanic has drummed into me over the years the need to change oil and filters regularly. ( vital for a turbo diesel which works the oil particularly hard. )
I change every 3000 miles without fail.
Wherever possible, I use a semi synthetic oil,
( I'd use a fully synthetic if I wasn't such a cheapskate ! ) It has to make sense, and it's a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild... - (#1970) Kevin Savage, 27 Jan 02

My Brother in Law is also a mechanic on ford transits.
He tells me the same do regualar. He got a good deal on castrol magnatec and had problems with the vans. Ie smoking more etc.
He then changed back to the oil he has used for years trouble free. This is castrol RX super mineral oil 15/40. Would this be ok for the 2c-t engine in 1990 townace 2.0lt td auto. Thanks for the reply all. Phil Cook - (#1971) Phil Cook, 27 Jan 02

Just wondered if anyone can tell me what is the best engine oil grade to put in my 1991 Townace 2ltr turbo diesel 2ct engine?

Check the specification on the side of the centre console...

Full or semi-synthetic for turbo diesels. Depends how much you want to pay. Better to go for cheaper oil and change more regularly than the best and less frequent. I use semi-synthetic every 4 months or 5000k.
