I have a problem which started just before x-mas 2001, when I tried to start the usual way in Park
(automatic)there is a click as if the atarter solinoid is working but nothing for the engine to start, yet if I put the auto into neutral the engine will strat with no problem. Is there any one with similar problem and any adeas what the rectification may be ??
The Townace is 2.0 L Turbo Diesel. ( H reg )approx 130,000 KM.

That's unusual, normally they don't start in either position. But if you can hear the solenoid click, and it's definately the solenoid you can hear, then either the contacts are worn in the solenoid (auto electricians carry replacements) or you've just discovered our famous voltage drop problem. The solution to that appears to be hooking up a relay to control the solenoid or running an additional wire to the starter.
If the solenoid isn't clicking, try to adjust/ strip and clean the inhibitor switch on the side of the gearbox.
