(Home) Space cruiser rear wheel bearing (Sp+)

Hi, Anyone out there had the pleasure of replacing the rear wheel bearing on a rear wheel drive space cruiser.
Is it the same as conventional Rear wheel drive vehicles where you have to remove the half shaft and have a new bearing pressed on to it.All comments greatly appreciated. - (#2071) Andy Eggleden, 2 Feb 02

I've done it on a 4x4 townie and yes, it's out with the half-shaft. Your local factors will be able to supply a kit inc. bearing, retainer, oilseal, and gasket, all for about £35 IIRC. Grind ogff the old retainer and press the bearing off. The new retainer gets pressed on hot. - (#2072) david miller, 3 Feb 02

Thanks David, presumably the bearing is pressed on before the retainer or visa versa. I have not stripped it yet, but I do know the bearing has collapsed and oil is leaking down the inside of the wheel. I noticed the lack of manuals though.
All the best Andy - (#2075) Andy Eggleden, 3 Feb 02

Try the Chilton's manual for the US Van. Good other than wiring diagrams - (#2076) david miller, 3 Feb 02
