(Home) Acceleration poor (petrol Model F)

Thanks Ian for prompt reply to query on above. I agree it would seem a bit pointless to have a form of resriction between the advance mech' and engine, but there is this clear plastic filter looking object sitting there attached by rubber piping in said position. I'm clutching at straws really as I have a distinct lack of power at normal engine performance of 30-50mph, it feels just like a clutch slipping on a manual vehicle, push your foot down and away you go until the speed comes down. The timing is spot on and all other items appear ajusted correctly as far as I can be certain. Query diaphram, auto choke problem? The breather on the auto box is also clear as is the fluid. Bernie
You didn't say you had a fault. If you are sure the timing is correct, check the vacuum advance is working ok as I'm not sure what your "in-line filter" is. Does it look like oem or an add-on? If the latter, try by-passing it if the vacuum advance is not working properly.
Do you get the same problem when engine is cold? If only happens when engine is warm, suspect the autochoke is sticking.
If neither of above apply then it sounds a bit like fuel starvation. Could be a clogged fuel line, faulty power valve in the carb or float level is too low.

Ian. Again many thanks for reply and info. I think I may have identified problem. Having a further scout around I found a black cylinder shaped filter under the water pump housing, piping leading to unit on side of carb. Prised end off (don't know if you're supposed to) took out dirty felt insert, washed it out and replaced unit back to engine. Result, vastly improved pick up and mid range sustained power, virtually no tug back and hesitation on acceleration. As for the inline filter from dist' its got toyota on it and is shown on the vacuum info sticker as VTV A&B. Still none the wiser. Again many thanks for your help. The VTV is a valve that sits between the carb and choke breaker, shouldn't be running to the distributor advance. Anyway, glad you got sorted.
