(Home) Door mirror source

Whether or not you agree that the distortion, and danger of over-estimating a car's distance behind, is good enough reason for fitting flat replacements over the convex door mirrors (see 5 Feb 02 thread) you might be interested to know where I've got to.
A TownAce's 155x167mm mirrors are considered unusually large by Summit - too big for them to cut to order, though they've otherwise been helpful. Summit no longer produce cut-it-yourself mirror material either. And Halfords get their mirrors from Summit.
Any suggestions? - (#2265) Dave Mason, 18 Feb 02

Well I've got flat mirrors now. I'd missed the obvious source of going to my local glass shop who did a good job of cutting them from my card template for £11 each.
I fixed them on to the convex spherical surface of the existing mirrors with 6 piles of double-sided sticky pads arranged in a circle, 4 in each pile with a couple of narrow slices added to tilt the top one.
The result? Mixed feelings. Takes a bit of getting used to, as the convex ones did. No sense yet that the view is restricted, because the mirrors are so large. Can play with the mirror controls now when parking - never needed to touch them before.
I'll own up if I do decide throw them away! - (#2454) Dave Mason, 8 Mar 02
