(Home) Aircon/exhaust contacts

Can anyone tell me why my front aircon is dead but the rear works well? Are they totally separate circuits?
Also, if anyone knows a good (cheap) aircon dealer etc and exhaust for a townie 4wd in east anglia/midlands please drop me an email direct. It seems that most postings stop short of divulging these contacts on the bok - to the entire cyber universe. understandable really.
Thanks in anticipation!

re the aircon, does the compressor cut in? Parts of the electrical and gas circuits are shared. It might be a duff switch, loose connection, or blocked expansion valve.Or a solenoid valve for that matter. - (#2270) david miller, 19 Feb 02

well, firstly, both were working when i got the van - blue lights and all. The front became increasingly lame and the blue light on the aircon switch evemtually failed to light despite the switch still activating the pulley clutch ok. The light for the front would only light if the air intake lever was set on 'recirculate' and it had to be set on the coldest setting on the heater. Rear has always been ok and lights the rear fan button blue light. But now front gives no cooling despite engagement of pulley (no light though) and there is clearly resistance as it slows the engine revs!. seems like pump is ok and is pumping something but no cooling going on. - I was wondering if the lack of light is Mr Toyota's way of flagging up a lack of gas. ? I am still unsure as to whether both systems use the same lump of gas or if there are two discrete circuits cos if they do i'm stumped. Is this more helpful Dave?

Aircon gas is communal. I'm not sure, but the light not coming on could indicate low pressure, although that should stop the clutch from engaging. No-one has any wiring diagrams for the auto a/c, AFAIK - (#2280) david miller, 20 Feb 02

David
Do you think the electrical schematics for the Model F (page 1) would have any relevance to the Townace's aircon system? I've not delved into it like you have, but the vehicles are of the same era and not light years apart in design. Possibly they use a very similar system and same wiring standards?

Ian, I don't think that any model-F was fitted with the servo- driven auto aircon. The basic circuit will be similar, but with additional sensors and servos... - (#2290) david miller, 20 Feb 02

David, Ian ,this is a bit over my head but thanks all the same! I wouldn't know one end of a wiring diagram from the other. I prefer nuts and bolts. However, I would like to know if any damage could be sustained by the pulley failing to disconect as (i think) you suggest it should do with low pressure? - (#2296) mark adams, 20 Feb 02

No likely damage, although sustained running like this could damage the compressor due to lack of lube... - (#2303) david miller, 21 Feb 02
