(Home) Oil pressure light (Sp+)

Please forgive the ignorance but I've recently bought a 2L Auto Spacecruiser and occaisionly the oil light on the dash comes on. Oil level is OK, so where do I start? Any help appreciated. - (#2277) Rennie Blunden, 19 Feb 02

Could be a sign of low oil pressure. Sometimes cleaning pressure switch, change of oil and filter makes it go away. Otherwise do a pressure check to prove all is ok.

hi,
i have a 1986 d reg spacecruiser just got it,
the oil light comes on every now and again sometimes it stays on for a minute and sometimes for longer
have done an oil and filter change but it still happens read on the posts that the oil pressure switch
could need a clean.
could someone please let me know where to locate it
thanks in advance - (#2651) dave hill-burton, 5 Apr 02

Just beneath the oil filter - (#2667) Ian Dunse, 8 Apr 02

re
the oil light
when the oil light comes on the oil pressure gauge stays within the quarter and half mark
if i disconect the oil pressure sensor
the pressure gauge drops but the oil light stays on
when i reconnect the sensor, the pressure gauge on the dash goes back up and the light says on.
does this mean that the oil pressure is ok and the light is a fault with the oil level (which is reading f on dipstick) - (#2687) dave hb, 8 Apr 02

spacecruiser 2lt mod f
sometimes the oil light comes on
it might stay on for less than a minute and other times a bit longer
i have cleaned the oil sensor and connector
when the oil light comes on the oil pressure gauge stays within the quarter and half mark
if i disconect the oil pressure sensor
the pressure gauge drops but the oil light stays on
when i reconnect the sensor, the pressure gauge on the dash goes back up and the light says on.
does this mean that the oil pressure is ok and the light is a fault with the oil level (which is reading f on dipstick)
also have managed to order the engine manual from toyota price is £13.50 and the owners manual is no longer made
thanks in advance

Dave

To be sure about your oil pressure, you need to remove the pressure sender and screw in an oil pressure gauge. Oil pressure should be:

4.3 psi @ idle

36 - 71 psi @3000 rpm

If outside of these figures then there are a number of reasons which we could go into later.

PS. Well done with getting the service manual. Owner's manual is no big deal. - (#2697) Ian Dunse, 9 Apr 02
