(Home) TEMS, the saga continues

Following on from the thread started the other day, regarding the TEMS system, you may remember I was extolling the virtues of it, I then thought about the TEMS on our Townie & thought to myself that it didn;t seem to be working correctly, sure it would switch to 'HARD' if the brakes were applied, but I didn't think it was switching when cornering, like it used to, so I took it for a thrash around a big roundabout near by, going round & round faster & faster until I was getting it sliding away from me, and still no 'HARD' light. So why is this I thought???? then thought again, when the alarm fitter had all the steering column cowling off, did he disturb the sensor on the column, so I stripped said piece doen & noticed that there was a 4 way multi plug that was completely disconnected & the wires hanging loose from the connector, as these consist of 3 yellow wires & one brown, they don't correspond with the wires in the other half of the connector, so I daren't ram them back together. So the alarm fitter is having it back on Friday, I'll keep you posted on the latest. - (#2431) Rob Drinkwater, 6 Mar 02

It looks to me like the only way I'm going to sort this sensor problem is if I can come up with a wiring diagram myself. So can anyone help me, I need to know which of these four wires goes where in the multiplug, if anyone can let me know how they are connected on your Townie I would be very grateful, my wife has now refused to drive the car as she doesn't like the way it leans around the corners, (So this must prove that TEMS works if a woman driver can tell the difference). Please please please can someone undo the three screws that hold the trim on under the steering column & have a look right near the top of the resulting hole & tell me how the four wires go in relation to the other four wires in the connector. Thank-you in advance guys. Regards Rob. - (#2449) Rob Drinkwater, 7 Mar 02

I only get TEMS indication on braking so I may have a similar problem on the steering column, but intend to investigate soon.
At the same time I'm wondering about TEMS activated by speed. The dealer disabled the 100kph warning for me so I'm wondering if they disconnected TEMS from the speedo too. I thought they'd just disable the pinger itself. At what speed does TEMS cut in? presumably not at 100kph! Any ideas how to check this? - (#2453) Dave Mason, 8 Mar 02

I can only find two connectors in that area on my '91 Townace. One is 2-way, the other is 6-way with 5 used.
I can't see where the TEMS switch might be, even with the upper trim section off. Any tips?
The lower side of the larger connector goes:
Green/red bands
Unused
Red/double blue bands
Red/double black bands
Red/green stripe & double black bands
Green/red stripe
Upper side:
Yellow (the 2 Yellows go up in a blue sleeve)
Unused
Brown/red (the other 3 go up in a brown sleeve)
Brown/white
Brown/yellow
Yellow
Still no TEMS on turning, even after wriggling everything. - (#2460) Dave Mason, 8 Mar 02

hi
although some time ago i mentioned i thought tems was a con i have now conducted a series of tests and am happy to say
the tems doesnt activate at all below 15mph
the tems activates as the brake lights are applied at speed. angle the rear parking mirror to see
tems cuts in as the wheel is turned more than two inches whatever that is
the dash lights work correctly
the only problem being the difference it makes is small - (#2465) jim, 8 Mar 02
