(Home) Horn, models & coolant capacity (Sp+)

G'Day from Australia!
Hi I'm Odin from Sydney.
I've only recently found your site and have been reading with great interest! It really is an excellent job you guys are doing.
Anyway I thought it was time to participate as we have very similar interests.
I have a 1983 Toyota model F (Tarago) CR21(2c diesel /5speed). I have replaced(with relatively minor modifications) the original motor/gbox with an imported 2ctd/ 3speed auto.
I just have a few questions for which I would be most grateful for any comments.
----- Firstly where does my vehicle belong compared to models in the UK? Also why is it so hard to get a manual for these engines/ Vehicles? I can get a manual for a petrol tarago but not a diesel even though it came like that originally.
----- Secondly My owner's manual states the cooling system capacity as 6.5 Lt. for a 2c. How does this compare to a van running a 2ct ?It also states petrol/automatic vans have a 7.2 Lt. system .Do these have a bigger radiator? Mine goes fine until think about going fast/uphill or under loads. Its got an external transmission cooler, 2 core 550mm long/ 350mm high radiator.I have been told the 4wd & commuter models have 3 core ones?
----- Finnally a little problem with the horn was working fine until it stopped working! Now when u press the horn button the charge & filter lights come on & no horn. Any ideas?
Many Thanks

Hi Odin,
re your questions:
manuals - if your vehicle was made for the Jap home market then manuals are hard to come by in English, as visitors to this site know only too well! There are a few references to the diesel variant of the Tarago in the Body and Chassis manual but they are few and indicates the diesel variant is a rarity.
Manuals seem a little contradictory with regard to coolant capacity. My Model F handbook states 6.5L for the 2C as you say but for a manual box. The autobox is 7.4L. The 2CT engine manual states 7.1L and the Model F engine manual states 7.0L for the 2Y and 7.4L for the 3Y. There are plenty of variants on these with differing capacities. BTW the 4WD Townaces have a second horizontal radiator.
As for the horn. You probably have a short as the white/black wire to the horn shares the same circuit as many of the dash warning lights. I would check for a bad earth first. I've had some wierd results from bad earths to horns on vehicles in the past.
