(Home) Tip knocking noise from rear

I've finally found the cause of an annoying knock from the rear and thought I'd pass it on. The Panhard rod(horizontal, accross the axle) has an interesting bush where it attaches to the axle. A rubber cone on each face, and a plastic bush inbetween. The plastic bush is free to move in the eye at the end of the rod, supported by the rubbers. If the rubbers soften, the rod end knocks against the bush. No play is apparent, but if you strip, and replace the rubbers, or pack oout the bush with a turn or two of tape, the noise stops!

is this a dull knock - like something tapping inside the door?
I have the same, and at first thought it was the ariel knocking on the roof, but when I wave it manually, it is much more metallic - (#2439) skippy, 7 Mar 02

David
There you go, spoiling everyone's fun because we now know where to look for the noise.
Actually I've got a bit of a rattle from the back but thought it was something internal like seat brackets. Now I'm not too sure, maybe I should investigate further.
Thanks

A more metallic rattle is probably one of the rollers in a rear seat turntable... - (#2443) david miller, 7 Mar 02
