(Home) Sat nav and TV

I recently bought a townace with sat nav system and tv. The reception on tv is very poor with no sound and the sat nav system is still in Japanese. Does anyone have access to British disc for the sat nav and can anyone give advice on the poor receptiom. Also radio does nor go beyond 90mhz. Finally, the cassette deck appears not to switch off when the ignition is off and as a result I have ended up with a flat battery on a couple of occasions. The only solution for this so far has been to pull the fuse on the unswitched supply. Appreciate any help, thanks. - (#2447) james boyle, 7 Mar 02

As regards the Sat Nav, I don't think that would be standard, you would have to check out what make it is, then get hold of the manufacturer to get an up to date disk of the UK. Regarding the Radio, you can get a band shifter, available from some of the suppliers listed on the main site (link above) this will shift the tuning up & allow you to get the rest of the UK stations, however I would take it out & replace it with a CD tuner, this would give you Cd & UK Radio capability. Regarding the cassette deck, I had a Thatcham alarm professionally fitted that caused the cassette deck to do the same ie wouldn't go off with ignition, it stayed like this until I had a starting problem caused by the solenoid, with the rapid switching on & off of the ignition it must have reset the cassette deck & now it works correctly, ie turns on & off with ignition & is activated & controls power to the CD Tuner I fitted. Regarding the TV, is it the standard Panasonic item fitted in the roof between driver & passenger, or an aftermarket unit? - (#2450) Rob Drinkwater, 7 Mar 02

Re
Cassette. I agree with Rob, but could also be that you are not turning the key to the fully off position. I think a lot of Townies have this problem. My key will come out at any time! - (#2459) Phil Jones, 8 Mar 02

The tv and sat system are factory fitted by toyota. Description is " toyota original car audio 36001 - kvt5060" and is mounted in dashboard. The townace is 96 model townace w-super. - (#2477) james boyle, 9 Mar 02

The problem with the TV is most likely that it is an NTSC TV - As used in Japan and the USA - rather than a PAL TV as required in the UK. It may be selectable.... - (#2518) Mark, 12 Mar 02
