(Home) Sick of those yellow fog lights

Guys, just thought I'd let you know of a good way of getting rid of those 'orrible yellow fog lamps, the standard bulds are yellow 35w bayonet fitting tungsten bulbs, so not only are they yellow but they aren't very bright either. So visit your local friendly factor or auto electrical retailer & see if they deal with a bulb company called GUARDIAN, if they do ask them to order you a brace of 795 bulbs, they have the same base i.e. SBC, but they have a clear 55w halogen top on them, this gives you lamps that are both clear & the same brightness as the headlamps, the wiring all seems to be man enough for the job, my only fear was the plastic lenses, but these don't even get particularly warm & I've tried them on for quite a long while. Hope this helps you see where you are going. - (#2451) Rob Drinkwater, 7 Mar 02

Another option is to replace the lampholders with stop-and-tail offset bayonet, then use volvo day-running light bulbs- 32/3W or so. You can then get sidelights that can be seen from the front... - (#2456) david miller, 8 Mar 02

Rob
I had the same idea but was afraid of the 55W halogens either blowing the circuit or melting the plastic, so I played safe and used 20W halogens on the same base. The plan was that they would be brighter than standard 21W indicator bulbs. Have to admit they are only of use as a running light. Have you had the 55W bulbs in long and lit for long periods and can still claim no ill-effects?

On my 87/88 townie, the fog lights differ.....
there are glass, yellow cups inside the lamps & the bulbs are clear.....
I've just removed the glass cups...
job done...
but thanks for the bulb code numbers..

tried david's idea, works a treat, good to know people can now see my lights from the front, i think this may be helpful!! :-)
still not as bright as i'm used to, may try the guardian bulbs, but can't find anyone local (NW)who sells them... any ideas?

ive just got to 100'000 km on the clock and the t belt warning light came on.i know i need to get the belt replaced, but because the warning lights on, does it have to be done as soon as pos or am i safe for a few thousand miles yet.has anyone had their's done recently, how much and how long is the job.also if any of you are from the bristol area, do you know of any good garages where i could get mine done.just one other thing,i used to ride an old bsa motor bike and every time i passed any one on a british bike i would always get a wave from the other bikers, now i know times have changed and iv'e grown a lot greyer, but i always wave out or put me thumbs up to fellow townies, only to get an odd look back as if to say who was that nutter,so come on all you lot if you see another townace coming down the road ,give them a wave and make someone happy aswell as yourself.

Get it done ASAP, the timing belt that just came off ours had only done 80,000 Km and was showing it's age already, the teeth were starting to crack away from the backing, so do it before the belt snaps & make the engine go bang, ouch!!! & mega bucks to replace engine. While your at it, see my earlier posting about the other things to replace at the same time as the cambelt. HTH Rob.
