(Home) Fuel filter in Spacecruiser (Sp+)

I've got an '87 Toyota Space Cruiser. I've got a fuel stavation problem and I guess the first thing to check and change would be the fuel filter. But I can't find it. Does anyone know where it is located? Many thanks. - (#2649) Kevin Sebastian, 5 Apr 02

Ooh tricky one. The manual doesn't mention it but IIRC it's in line from the tank to the pump. Lay on the ground, driver's side and it's about a foot or so forwards from the tank. I remember changing it for a bog standard one from the local factors. I just hope I'm thinking of the right car, it's 10 years since I had my Spacecruiser! Hopefully a current owner will confirm or correct me.
There's another filter in the carb by way of a round piece of metal gauze. If problem persists, check pump is pumping fuel by removing fuel feed pipe to carb and turn engine over. If flowing ok, take head off carb and check for crap in carb, carb fuel-filter and jets.

Thanks Ian, found the fuel filter, it's just underneath the Oil filter so it's impossible to access easily from above the engine. When changing the filter I got lots of fuel running down my arm and splashed some into my eye! The old filter had some black sandy looking stuff in it. After changing the fuel filter all is well again with the Space Cruiser -- running really good. Again many thanks. - (#2670) Kevin Sebastian, 8 Apr 02

Kevin
I must have been thinking of a different vehicle with the location of the filter - sorry. Glad you got sorted out, hope the eye is ok.
