(Home) Reversing bleeper

Has anyone else got a 'bleeper' that comes on when reverse is selected? (auto 'box). I have and I want to disconnect it. Apparently, it can't be heard from outside, and I know when I'm going backwards, so what's the point?! Any help on where it is and how it's disabled would be greatly appreciated. - (#2710) Helen Taylor, 10 Apr 02

Yes they all have the "bleeper", although you must be the first person to complain about it. I find it mainly a talking point but it has a safety advantage in that if you inadvertantly drop into reverse (easily done with an auto box if not paying attention or distracted)in a tight spot, you don't release the brake and run into another vehicle.

Not certain but it may be connected to the same "bleeper" that warns if you have left the lights on. Now you wouldn't want to disconnect that would you?

it should be situated inside the rear rhs lamp cluster

i had mine disconnected, only to find that when I had my wiring done for the towbar, that it been connected again via the indicators

now when I'm towing, it beeps when I indicate

it's a small black conntector thing - (#2715) skippy, 10 Apr 02

Re followups - mine (1991 CR21) beeps going backwards but doesn't have any audible lights-on beep, suggesting they're not the same thing.

Towbar fitments are legally required to have some form of beep when the trailer's connected - sure that's not what you've got instead? - (#2718) SteveFE, 10 Apr 02

The reversing bleeper is mounted on the back of the dash, on the circuit board, beside the speedo - (#2720) david miller, 10 Apr 02

Strangely enough, I don't have the 'lights on' warning bleeper. And I'm positive I've not got it mixed up with a towbar bleep. But it's still coming out when the 60mph 'ding' comes out. Thanks guys. - (#2721) Helen Taylor, 10 Apr 02

Mine does'nt ding at 100kph but it does play an electronic tune ( Choice of 2 )when reversing. Anyone else got this? Can you change these preprogrammed tunes? - (#2723) stephen judge, 10 Apr 02

strange

mine is in the rear lamp cluster - or is that just the beeper itself? (ie the thing that makes the noise) - (#2725) skippy, 10 Apr 02

I have a 1989 Royal Lounge 2litre EFI and my bleeper is located behind the nearside rear wheel and it is very audible when reversing. I find it to be a great help when reversing because people do take note and keep clear when they hear the beep beep beep. While I am talking about reversing has any Townie got a reversing camera fitted as an "add on". I plan to fit a camera to my Townie but I am unsure about location of the monitor and camera. - (#3175) William Dickinson, 19 Apr 02
