(Home) Torque for 2ct head bolts

We have just removed the head from our diesel CR30 townace due to gasket failure. The head has now been sent for testing and skimming. When we removed the camshaft bearing cap bolts we noticed a spray of what looked like water from the thread below the cap. This happened on a number of them has anyone else experienced this? Additionally can someone please post the torque wrench settings for the camshaft bearing caps for a 2CT engine. Thanks Ali

Many thanks Ian would you also happen to know the sequence for tightening the head bolts on a 2CT engine. We've ordered a manual from the dealer but it won't come until Thursday and our baby's off the road at the moment.

Ian, Did an extra "1" slip into your reply ? This torque setting should be 13 ft-lb, NOT 33 ft-lb.

My sincere apologies and thanks for picking me up on this John (ok I'm having a hard time lately). 33ft-lb refers to the cylinder head torque. Camshaft bearings caps are 13 ft-lb as John rightly said.
Head bolt sequence is:

17 11 9 3 1 6 8 14 16

15 13 7 5 2 4 10 12 18

in 3 passes. Looking from passenger side. Waiting until you get the manual might be a safe bet though.

Many thanks to all those who answered my queries both on the board and via email. We are now back on the road and the manual has arrived so we are busy reading. Thanks once more your help meant that the job could be finished before the manual arrived.

Ali. Taken from the engine manual, part No RMO25E, available from your Toyota dealer at a cost of around £9 and, essential reading for engine renovation etc.
"Gradually install and tighten the cap bolts from the inside in three passes. Torque the bolts on the final pass. 185kg-cm (13ft-lb) 18N.m "
Ref the "spray" from the head drill/tappings, this is unusual. When the head is pressure tested, hopefully there will be no cracks or fissures. I can only think that it is trapped moisture/oil/fuel etc, which has been in the blind tappings since the head was fitted.
By the way,and you are possibly aware of this, the small waterway drillings, between the cylinders, can get clogged up and, while the head is off, it's a good idea to clean these out - (#2809) John Davis, 19 Apr 02
