(Home) 4WD & aircon

I have just bought a 1990 super extra limited edition 4wd 2.0ltr td townace. Can anyone please tell me how to engage the 4wd is there a particular order in which it should be done ( the hubs are freefloating and have to be locked into 4wd).
The aircon is not working properly it has been checked and recharged and there are no leaks, what else could be the problem? any help will be gratefully received.
The heating is not so good either but I think that there maybe an airlock in the rsd, but any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Finally how does the hot/cold box work? the hot side is great but the cold/ice side is again not so goog any help will be great.

hot/coldbox works off the aircon. is the compressor cutting in?
re the heating, ensure that the system is full of water. not just the expansion bottle, the filler as well. and check the rad cap too.
re. 4x4, lock the hubs, then you're ready to switch at anytime. under 50mph, loose surfaces only, push the button.
you can only engage low ratio when already in 4x4. stop, neutral, brakes off, pull the lever. and you must come out of low ratio before disengaging 4x4

Marc. David has outlined everything you should know about the 4WD selection. However, there is a drivers handbook available from Northwest Imports. It's all very simplistic and does not go into too much technical detail but, it is a help to the new owner.
Ref the cutting in of the aircon pump, this can be checked by opening up the engine bay (Drivers seat forward, passenger seat up etc etc) You will see the a/con pump/compressor under the injection pump. Check if the magnetic clutch operates on the face of the drive pulley.

Thanks John and David I am going to pass this info onto my garage. I have topped up the rads but the heating is not great neither is the aircon but i hope they will be able to sort out the problems.

re the 4wd, I lock the hubs in and press the button and assume it is engaging but the 4wb light does not come on on the dash and although I have followed your instructions I cannot get the lever to shift any ideas????
