(Home) Fuel usage and cost

in reply to Kim Phelan's question,we travelled to the south of france last year in our townace td. fuel costs are much cheaper on the continent, to check current prices look them up on teletext.if you are travelling to greece watch out for motorway tolls,in germany they are free, austria free, france quite expensive (but worth it if time is important), italy expensive, switzerland you buy a motorway pass before you enter the country (dont try to enter by an ordinary road then get onto the m/way without a pass the fines will bankrupt you ).take your time to begin with and continental motoring is a breeze, have a good holiday. john elliott

We are just back from a month in France in which we drove over 4,oookms. The motorways (especially the main routes to the Alps or the South) are very expensive! The old Townace also may cruise at 80mph but this is not enough and the lack of acceleration will certainly cause some "interesting" interchanges with the flying traffic in the outside lanes. We soon decided that N roads provided excellent routes and the saved Tolls paid for extra Hotels!
Diesel is very cheap compared to England and about the same as Ireland (average about 80 cents per litre). Motorway services are the most expensive and Supermarkets (often closed at lunchtime!) by far the cheapest.
You could always sleep in the Townace at a Motorway service station (the Toll ticket allows 48 hours on the road) if you want the faster roads at a cheap price.
Good Luck
