(Home) Fuel consumption, 1.8 Spacecruiser (Spa)

can anybody body give me an idea what is a reasonable
figure for mpg on my 84 1.8 cruiser.....200 miles to a tank is a bit much for my wallet..or is this as good as it gets??

Dave,
My 2.0 used to do 200-250 around town 250-300 on a run. Would guess that the 1.8 would be a worse, same weight less power. A tune up is the best advice I can give.

Dave

I used to have an 83, 1.8 Spacecruiser. At worst I got 17mpg (short runs and town driving) and at best 25mpg (on a run/motorway).

You should get better than 200 to a tank but don't expect miracles. Could be due to a number of factors - worn engine, worn carb, tyre pressures, timing, tuning. By addressing the "cheap" factors such as tuning, filters, timing, cleaning vacuum hoses, internal filters in carb etc. Maybe new plugs, points and leads will help. Check tyre pressures and brakes aren't dragging and drive more carefully and you could bring the figure up a bit.

Engine and carb may not give a return on investment so you may be best just living with those.
